History (Curriculum)
At Walkergate Community School, history is an integral part of our curriculum. We aim to ignite children’s curiosity about the past of Britain and the wider world. Finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time enables children to understand how the past influences their present.
Through the National Curriculum for History, Walkergate Community School ensures all pupils:
- Study a wide range of carefully sequenced units through an enquiry-based approach which enables them to think critically, ask questions and justify
their own claims. - Explore historical concepts including continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance to make connections across all phases of their learning.
- Are immersed in learning through a range of engaging artefacts, trips in the local area and external visitors.
We are committed to raising aspirations and make links to further study and career options throughout all our units.
