At Walkergate Community School we recognise the importance of DT as a curriculum subject. Our Curriculum is designed to enable pupils to become resourceful, innovative and enterprising citizens. Our curriculum encourages imaginative, creative thinking and problem solving. We promote collaborative working through teamwork and communication with others.
Our aim is for children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. Through the evaluation of past and present products, pupils develop a critical understanding of the world around them. Pupils are encouraged to represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology.
The Lego League project runs alongside all we do in DT and complements and enhances the DT offer we have in school.
Through the National Curriculum for Design & Technology, Walkergate Community School aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
- Build and apply a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of specified users through working to a given design brief.
- Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others through collaborative working.
- Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
