Computing (Curriculum)

Due to the nature of the digital world we live in, we believe that our role in facilitating our pupil’s understanding of computing has never been more important. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in students’ lives. Therefore, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. We are aware of the role that we have in educating our children on online issues and scenarios they may encounter.

Our Computing curriculum covers the three main aspects of computing: information technology, digital science and digital literacy. This enables us to provide opportunities that allow our children to develop and pursue aspirations through a well-rounded computing curriculum. We provide our pupils with the opportunities to show computational thinking, creativity and to become digitally literate and confident individuals.

Through the National Curriculum for Computing, Walkergate Community School aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Ensure that all children become confident users of ICT and have opportunities to use it throughout the wider curriculum. We recognise the increasing global digialisation of the world and therefore the need to provide all pupils with the digital literacy skills required to encourage independent learning and ICT skills for later educational life and the future workplace.
  • Can use computational thinking to solve problems and find innovative solutions with creatively.
  • Understand the importance of online safety and the relevance of this to their daily lives, through teaching children how to use ICT safely and promote change for good. This is re-visited yearly and brought to life through visitors and workshops to school.
